Tattoo Aftercare

Most tattoos will be wrapped with plastic wrap after the tattoo. Some will have the breathable adhesive Saniderm/Tegaderm. Please read instructions carefully, and do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.

                                                        FOR PLASTIC WRAP:

1) Keep plastic wrap on for 2 HOURS.

It may appear to ooze blood and plasma under the plastic. This is normal.

2) IMMEDIATELY WASH your tattoo after removing plastic.

Use antibacterial soap, your clean fingers, and warm water. Gently scrub and rinse.

3) Let it AIR DRY COMPLETELY.

Do not use towels or hair driers. Takes 30-60 minutes

4) Apply a VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF AQUAPHOR.

Hardly anything. Just enough to make your tattoo shiny. Massage into dry skin and remove any excess

5) On day #2, stop using Aquaphor and start using UNSCENTED LOTION.

Non-scented healing lotion works best. Very small amount on completely dry skin, twice a day

6) Your tattoo will be fully healed in about 2 WEEKS.

Everyone’s skin is different. Some heal faster, some will take longer

Until your tattoo is fully healed:

• No swimming (chlorine stings and ruins your healing tattoo)

• Do not submerge your tattoo in water (showers only, no baths)

• Keep showers short and warm, not hot.

• Avoid direct sunlight

• Avoid saunas

• Any fabrics that come into contact with your skin should be clean (clothes, towels, bedsheets, etc.)

• Do not itch, scratch, rub, or pick at your tattoo (light flaking is normal)

• Do not rewrap (your tattoo needs to breathe, don’t suffocate it)

• Keep it clean (avoid dirty/dusty environments)

• Protect it (avoid scratches and scrapes)

• Your tattoo may swell or bruise slightly. This is normal

Once healed:

• Don’t cut or burn your tattoo

Saniderm/Tegaderm

  • Leave wrapping on for approximately 24 hours.
  • Fluids may gather under the wrapping.
  • Do not submerge, keep showers short.
  • To remove, gently peel back from corner.
  • Wash with antibacterial soap and let air-dry.
  • Apply unscented lotion once a day.
  • Allow scab to form and fall off. Do not pick at it.
